Peter Turnamian - Partner

Prior to his role as Partner with TNTP, Peter served as Deputy and Assistant Supeintendent for Newark Public Schools where he helped lead school-based turnaround work, the implementation of improved supervision and evaluation systems, and district-wide reforms to special education services. Earlier in his career, Peter founded and served as Director of Greater Newark Charter School, where he was recognized as a pioneer of the “Data-Driven Instruction” model, and co-developed the Marshall Rubrics as a first of its kind teacher evaluation tool.   

In 2012, Peter accepted the national Blue Ribbon award as Principal for Watching Elementary School in Montclair, NJ. Peter has also been the recipient of the “Cultivating Quality Education” Award and served as a mentor principal for New Leaders for New Schools. Peter was guest speaker at Harvard University Principals’ Seminar in both 2004 and 2009 and presently serves as Adjunct Professor of Education at Seton Hall University. A New Jersey state-certified Principal and Superintendent, Peter holds a BA in English from University of Rochester, a Masters degree in Education from Harvard University and a Doctorate in Educational Administration from Seton Hall University.
