Meredith Lowe - Project Director

Meredith joins PhillyPLUS after serving as the founding Principal of The C.B. Community School in Philadelphia, a new private school for 14-21 year old youth in foster care.  At The C.B. Community School, Meredith led the development of a new common core aligned, competency-based curriculum that emphasized the importance of academic transparency and ownership to engage her students who had not experienced success at other schools.  In year one, The C.B. Community School had an average daily attendance rate of over 80% for students, and had a graduation rate of 90%. These gains represented significant improvements in comparison to national averages for youth in foster care. Prior to The C.B. Community School, Meredith was the School Leader at Arise Academy Charter High School, the Nation’s first charter high school for youth in foster care.  Meredith has also served as a Program Manager for City Year Philadelphia, managing teams providing academic, behavior, and attendance interventions at Pastorius K-8, West Philadelphia High School, and Woodrow Wilson Middle School in Philadelphia.  Meredith started her career in education as a Teaching Fellow, teaching middle school mathematics at the Garfield Middle School in Revere, Massachusetts. Meredith received her B.A. in American Studies and Sociology from Wesleyan University, her M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from Lesley University, and her M.Ed. and Principal’s Certification from Chestnut Hill College.
